Cada vez se realizan más documentales sobre cine sexual. Aunque la historia ya viene de lejos, y en su día fueron muy celebrados "Exhibition" (1975) y "Les pornocrates" (1976), del francés Jean-François Davy. Aunque aquí propongo otro programa doble más actual, que luego se puede alargar con un tercer documental, y por si alguien se queda con ganas de más... ¡una lista, enorme, de documentales que se acercan al cine porno, y alguna que otra película convencional que también se ha acercado al género!.

El cine sexual (ese que casi todo el mundo ha visto pero casi nadie dice que ve) ha sido abordado por algunos documentales en los últimos años.

La piel vendida (2004) Vicente Pérez Herrero
Este magnífico documental da voz a algunas de las principales figuras del cine sexual español, en especial hay que nombrar al pionero José María Ponce, y también a María Bianco, Bibian Norai, Narcís Bosch, Sandra Uve, Nacho Vidal... y en la parte de crítica cinematográfica, Paco Gisbert y Román Gubern, que van expresando las interioridades del género, las relaciones sentimentales, los entresijos de las filmaciones... Me encanta lo que defiende María Bianco: "follar amigablemente", y la reflexión que hace Ponce sobre la gran fantasía que en realidad es el cine sexual, con su parte realista, pero en el fondo un gran cuento de hadas para adultos. El documental, como es natural, es verbalmente explícito, pero no se centra en lo explícito.

Este documental aborda el cine sexual desde varias perspectivas, desde actrices que empiezan, a estrellas consagradas como Belladona o Sasha Grey, iconos del género como Nina Hartley (además autora) agentes, directores... y por supuesto en el documental afloran las cuestiones familiares y sentimentales, pues este documental plantea que el cine sexual, además de un género cinematográfico más coreografiado de lo que a menudo se cree, es un trabajo más o menos como cualquier otro, y no sólo eso, quienes crean cine sexual son personas con sus alegrías, sueños, problemas, familias, sentimientos, como todo el mundo. El documental, además no se censura a sí mismo y muestra con total naturalidad tanto verbal como visual lo que es el mundillo del cine sexual.

En el momento de mayor efervescencia creativa del cine sexual rodado en España, este documental entrevista a algunas de las estrellas del porno español, como Nacho Vidal, Celia Blanco, Bibian Norai, los hermanos Lapiedra... se adentra en los entresijos de la producción, en rodajes de Max Cortés, de Narcís Bosch, galardonado después en los AVN, y entra en el poco aireado, pero más demandado de lo que se cree, porno gay, abordando también la globalización del género, con los, todavía, prejuicios que conlleva el género y algunas de sus vicisitudes. Un valioso testimonio de la edad de oro del cine sexual español.

The point of this list is not to celebrate or recommend pornography, but simply to aid in learning about resources for exploring an interesting and important subject in the modern social environment. For whoever is interested, for whatever reason. Some of the following films are rated X. Most are either Rated R or NC-17 or Unrated. These are all documentary (educational) films, they are not pornography. They do contain nudity. I've seen most of these. Rather than a selected list of recommended films, I have tended toward completeness here (since I haven't seen anything like this anywhere else and I seem to be a compulsive listmaker). There is a wide range of viewpoints among these films, some are objective and purely educational, some are fun celebrations, some may be a bit sleazy, and some are very critical of the subject. A famous top-class photographer decides to make a book of photos of porn stars. 60 photos, 30 porn stars, 2 photos of each, same posture, one with clothes on, one with clothes off. This film documents the process of making the book. Lots of interesting commentary from various intellectuals such as Gore Vidal and John Waters, as well as interviews with the porn stars. Includes lots of men, some of whom work in gay porn. Made for HBO. Rated TV-MA. "Includes full frontal nude images of both men and women." Excellent film, smart and well-done. Recommended.

Based on the director's 2009 book of the same name (not to be confused with the earlier book Naked Ambition: Women Who are Changing Pornography by Carly Milne). Yes, it is another documentary based on the making of an art photo coffee table book of pornstars (see Thinking XXX above). This one aims to be a little more accessible, more presentable (less nudity - just a few bare chests) and covers a wider subject - the culture of porn. Photos are taken at the 2006 AVN Expo in Las Vegas and at the 2006 AVN Awards. Lots of interesting talks with porn stars, lots of looking around at the AVN Expo. Covers a lot, many angles explored, lots to think about, fast-paced, very interesting, fun film. Special features - 2 trailers, Spanish subtitles, 18 minutes of deleted scenes.

Award-winning behind-the-scenes look at the bondage website insex.com. Very intense, probably too much for most people, extremely interesting and an important film in dealing with issues of free speech. Ironically, it has had trouble in distribution chains (see blog postings at official site). As of AUG 2010 - DVD can be ordered at Amazon. Netflix has this listed (can put in Saved Queue), but no telling if they will decide to carry it. Recommended.

This BBC TV Series features 9 films, each focussing on a different aspect of pornography. Each is by a different director and each is about an hour or less in length. These are all very interesting well-done documentaries. Although they all seem fairly well-balanced (neither obviously pro nor anti porn) they definitely cover some dark and disturbing subjects, certainly not presenting a glamorous view. With the exception of episodes 3 and 4, these don't seem to be available on DVD. I think if you google around you will find places to watch these online. Have been shown on Sundance Channel. Indepth look at a sado-masochist master named Rick, who is ready to quit the business after 25 years. He is a very complex character and this is quite an interesting psychological portrait. This is probably the most shocking of the series, going a bit farther than most people would be able to handle even watching. Very thorough look at the subject. Starts with the FBI definition of a snuff film: 1 - It must be a visual depiction, such as a film, video or photos. 2 - A person is shown alive in the beginning and dead at the end. 3 - The motivation for the killing is that the script requires it. 4 - The purpose of the film is for sexual arousal. 5 - The film is commercially distributed. Looks at some famous fake snuff films - Snuff, Cannibal Holocaust (1981 - banned in the UK until 1984), Flower of Flesh and Blood (1985 Japanese), Faces of Death (banned in 46 countries - many faked scenes and some found footage). Looks at some cases of serial killers who filmed their crimes (not technically considered snuff films). Lots of speculation about the existence of the real thing.

Starts out discussing an untitled uncredited VHS collection of bestiality films that showed up in the UK around 1980 which came to be known as "Animal Farm". At the time this was very shocking and controversial. This turns out to be taken from the over 40 films that Bodil Joensen ("The Boar Girl") made in Denmark. During the 1970's Denmark was the center for hardcore porn, having relaxed censorship laws in 1969. The film looks at Bodil's tragic life. Raised by an abusive Christian mother, she was violently raped by a stranger at a train station at age 12. Her mother blamed her and beat her. Her repsonse to her mother was "I will fuck boars." She left home at age 15. Later she had a farm and used it as a studio for films depicting her having sex with various animals. Her life spiralled down in the 80's until her death from cirrhosis in 1985. Today there are supposedly over 2 million websites featuring bestiality.

Like the 2 films below (This Film is Not Yet Rated, and Sex at 24 Frames Per Second), this is not really about pornography, but explores the area just this side of the boundary. The first disc of this 2-DVD set contains 3 episodes of the Independent Film Channel's TV series, Indie Sex - Censored, Teens, and Extremes, each about an hour long. The second disc contains bonus features, including a shorter episode of Indie Sex titled Taboos. Excellent exploration of sex in cinema. You could watch this with a notebook and come away with a huge list of (non-porn) films to see. I enjoyed this a lot and recommend it. Unrated.

An investigation into the NCAA movie ratings system. The ratings organization is so secretive that Kirby hires private investigators to find out just who these people are. (Many spying tricks are revealed). Interviews with many censored filmmakers, such as John Waters. Many interesting ideas are explored. Including the crazy notion that you can have all the bloody violence you want in a movie (great for kids of all ages!) but we must all be protected from seeing any depiction of human sexuality. Recommended.

It is presented in a humorous way and I didn't realize how real and serious it was until the part near the end where he is going to Sex Addicts Anonymous meetings and crying. Very interesting film. Todo tiene sus sombras, evidentemente, y el porno no es un contenido como uno más, por lo que realmente sorprende el fácil acceso que se puede tener a cualquier edad.

En sus últimos años al fin recibió el merecido reconocimiento a su trayectoria, como muestra este documental más intimista que cinematográfico-histórico.
